Saturday, May 31 - Partying the Pixar Way
This was the day of the Pixar wrap party for WALL-E. It was held at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco. All of Pixar and their guests got to see WALL-E and the new short, Presto (one of the best shorts so far!), for the first time. The party started at 6 pm with the screening of the movie, and then the party was right there at the three-level convention center and lasted for the rest of the night. There is always some type of pre-show before the screening that is really entertaining. This year Andrew Stanton, the director of WALL-E, decided to show his thanks by busting out with a rock song about saying thank you to the crew, complete with a band and choir. It surprized everyone and was really funny.
I don't want to say much about the movie so I don't spoil it for anyone who wants to see it (which should be anyone who is reading this ! :). But I will say it's a very unique movie. There are not as many spoken lines as in a normal movie, so the story relies a lot on the sound effects and music.
During the party afterwards, it was fun to go around and talk to people about the film or just say hi. There was lots of food and cool decorations. Describing the decorations wouldn't make too much sense until you see the movie, but to say the least there was a futuristic-y feel to the decor, like back-lit tables/counters and smooth and white chairs and eating tables. There was also dancing, places to have photos taken, and different signs and logos to make it feel like you're on a spaceship (?....hmmm...). The wrap parties are always the most highly anticipated Pixar events after working so hard on a movie.
